Listening, immersion, passion, scholarship and innovation in storytelling form the foundation of our work with clients.
Artcast designed concept, interpretation, facilities and schematic design for a production plant tour of the largest stainless steel winemaking facility in the world for the largest winemaker in China.
Changyu wanted to educate their future customer about wine making and wine drinking, stress safety and quality control, share their history and innovation and make a traditionally adult visitor experience original, fun, educational and entertaining for both adults and families.
"One look at Artcast Productions portfolio and we knew they were the team with the right combination of creativity, talent, personality and commitment to execution to take on our project. Arcast's vast experience in creating compelling experiences made working together an absolute pleasure!"
Robert Fleming, Idletime Network. Changyu Pioneer Wine City Master Planner
Artcast has formed strategic alliances with teams around the globe to address design, production and fabrication practicalities for our clients.
Working with 10,000 square meters of a linear shell and a significant language barrier, Artcast assembled and led an elite team of over 25 architecture, facilities and design professionals simultaneously working in three countries.
The Production Plant was one of several aspects of a concept master plan designed and organized by Idletime Network for a planned Wine City in Yantai, China for Changyu Pioneer Wine Company.
Five companies contracted by Idletime Network were responsible for separate aspects of the Wine City but worked together to share resources and information and meet schematic design deadlines. The Wine City included:
Artcast consulted with the head of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis to understand the process of making wine in stainless steel and learn the latest innovations in environmental sustainability.
Artcast designed an immersive experience with multimedia installations, a film, a 360 theater, adult and kids audio tour narratives, physical and tactile exhibits, life sized machines, wayfinding, a bottling plant tram, a grand lobby, a wine bar, a learning lab, facilities, interior design, food and beverage, operations logistics and environmental sustainability strategies.
From soil to glass each step of the wine making process is explored in a unique, immersive and interactive way that makes the adult subject of wine accessible, educational, fun and entertaining for visitors of all ages.
Focusing on consumer education, Artcast created an industrial tourism experience designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. We love the challange of making traditionally adult visitor experiences fun, beautiful, educational and immersive for kids and families.
Visitors are taken on a physical and participatory journey through the process of fermentation as yeast forms, sediment settles, juice is pumped over and malolactic conversion begins.
A meandering path is cut through a forrest of giant fermentation tanks giving visitors an experience of the different phases of primary and secondary fermentation. Gesture interface videos in each tank allow visitors to feel, see and affect the action of yeasts, bacteria and gasses as crushed grapes are in the process of becoming wine.
Each tank features digital projection on the interior walls and floors and interpretive content on the inside and outside of the tanks. Dynamic family tour character scenes are hidden in peppers ghost stations in and around the tanks. Graphic elements on the floor and along the visitor pathway enrich the process story.
